The Past;
Prior to establishing Solar Energy Marketing Mr. Hosken enjoyed a long and successful 25+ year career with one of Japan’s largest industrial and electronic equipment manufactures. During his tenure Mr. Hosken continued to push the envelope of his personal and business performance capabilities. He was and is very much, a hands on management and sales professional. His career was built on hard work. Climbing the corporate ladder included the positions of Regional Manager, General Manager, Vice President and finally CEO and President of USA and Canadian subsidiaries. This progressive advancement provided the opportunity to experience a very wide variety of situations and responsibilities. Customers included large corporations, distributors and dealers both large and small. Mr. Hosken resigned from his corporate position in 2006 in order to pursue new challenges and opportunities in the solar energy industry.
The Passion;
Why Solar Energy? There are many reasons why Mr. Hosken made the decision to pursue opportunities in Solar Energy. There are of course the obvious reasons, maturing technology, economic viability, political willingness, high fossil fuel prices, positive environmental impact etc.. Of course these points are very relevant and answer the question why now, but they are not the only answer to why solar energy.
The pursuit of developing Solar Energy in the Hosken family dates back 3 decades. William Hosken’s father Mr. Stan Hosken an inventor, innovator, entrepreneur and early pioneer of cable television in North America was the first in the Hosken family to envision and promote the benefits of solar power.
In the 1950, 60s and 70s Mr. Stan Hosken invented and patented several designs of antennas designed for long range television reception. These unique designs included huge parabolas ranging from 40 feet – 180 feet in diameter. As an entrepreneur Stan Hosken started his first Cable TV system in 1957 in the Canadian North powered by television signals supplied by antennas designed and manufactured by his company. During this period his antennas were installed in many locations throughout North America and the Caribbean supplying remote cable TV systems with the ability to provide customers with expanded channel selections.
In the 1970’s Stan Hosken came to the realization that the same principals of concentrating radio signal waves could be applied to the collection and concentration of solar energy. During the 1980s he became an outspoken advocate for Solar energy. Unfortunately the decline of fossil fuel prices and the unwillingness of government agencies to shift their focus from nuclear and fossil fuel energy provided limited opportunies. Mr. Stan Hosken passed away in 1989 without being able to see his vision of solar energy becoming a main stream source or power.
Mr. William Hosken is now picking up where his father left off. He firmly believes that the Nation’s security, economic and environmental future is dependant on the development of new and renewable energy sources. Solar Energy Marketing is the first step by Mr. Hosken in “Helping America become Energy Independent”.
